Massage therapy is a deeply stress relieving, therapeutic and beneficial service that provides tangible physical benefits. The benefits vary from person to person, but in every case, the therapeutic benefits of a LaVida Massage Session are valuable, meaningful, relaxing, and in some cases curative!
At every LaVida Massage Center, you will receive expert care from experienced well-trained massage therapists- certified professionals who understand the complex, nuanced interactions between the body’s nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems. Not all massage is created equal, but expert therapeutic massage is good for every lifestyle and focuses on maintaining and improving the working order of each guest’s mind and body.
Benefits of Massage Therapy:
Detoxify Your BodyA healthy and properly functioning body maintains adequate levels of acid through the process of eliminating of waste, but stress (the body’s constant enemy) produces more acid than the body needs and, in many cases more acid than the body can manage or eliminate. In other words, the nature of daily stress, as well as physical exertion, expose the average body to numerous, and persistent opportunities for the excessive buildup of extra acid in the body. While it is a normal function of human metabolism and cellular function, the production of acid is increased during times of stress or duress. As a result, the body is challenged to find other ways to eliminate unwanted, excess chemicals in the body in the form of human waste.
Here’s the problem; acid that is not neutralized and eliminated must be stored locally – in your body! The accumulation of unwanted acids can literally wreak internal havoc, and the results are manifested in the way you look, feel, act, and respond to your daily concerns or commitments. We’ve all heard it – “You look exhausted…” or “Why so agitated today?” and even “Are you getting enough sleep?” The symptoms of acid buildup vary from body to body, but the results of that chemical buildup are altogether familiar. They often include common effects, such as; feeling/looking worn out, fatigue or lethargy, cloudy judgment, slow response times (both physically and mentally), general lack of energy, irritability, weight gain which can lead to obesity, loss of memory & focus, diminished concentration, as well as restless sleep or just plain sleepless nights.
Over time, the symptoms can get even uglier, contributing to more chronic issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure, joint and muscles pains, immune deficiency problems, premature aging, hormonal imbalance, diabetes, liver & kidney disease, and even bone loss and asthma! The list goes on and on…
But here’s the GREAT NEWS! Regular therapeutic massage yields some very positive biological and restorative results…therapeutic massage remains an important, proven step in the elimination of unnecessary and potentially harmful acids in the body – as well as the alleviation of the very symptoms associated with that acid buildup in the first place. Therapeutic massage helps to dissolve the toxins where they reside through the act of physical stimulation, releasing them and then sloughing them into the bloodstream where they can be safely transported out of the body – filtering out the poisons, and permanently eliminating the acid buildup.
Enhanced Sleep QualityEveryone has longed for a decent night’s sleep on a restless night. A perfect night’s sleep is how humans recharge their internal battery, both physically and mentally. For those who do not sleep well, or who may be sleep deprived, the daily grind is that much more challenging when the body and mind are not feeling rested or recharged. Irritability, a lack of focus accomplishing simple tasks, and many other symptoms are a result of poor sleep. It is also a vicious cycle; the worse you sleep, the more frustrated you become – and the less likely you are to sleep.
As a proven antidote for stress, massage therapy reduces built-up tension and positively impacts the functions of the muscular, circulatory, nervous and even immune systems simultaneously. Techniques such as deep tissue and stretching, and muscle flexes are used and, as a result, sleep is greatly improved.
Simply put, adequate rest is one of the foundations of a healthy body and mind and a key source of your body’s energy. Studies now support the fact that inadequate sleep is categorically associated with diseases such as obesity/weight gain, diabetes, heart disease as well as numerous other chronic ailments. The average human body generally requires at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to adequately stimulate cellular rejuvenation.
Unfortunately, most people get far less sleep than they need. Depriving the body of sleep means less than optimal function – physically and mentally. Whether it’s insomnia, unwillingness to turn out the light, or just a crazy-busy schedule, simply adjusting some of your current habits, and integrating a regular, therapeutic massage into your healthy routine can greatly improve the quantity and quality of your sleep each night.
Enhanced ImmunityThe immune system is your body’s internal armor against infection and bacteria. When it does not function properly, you become susceptible to breakdown, illness and even disease. The inability to fend off bacteria and viruses leads to the formation of unwanted chemicals in the body, yielding a potentially toxic environment at the cellular level – leaving the body in impending jeopardy. It stands to reason, if the cells can’t function properly and the body cannot fend off those intruders, it ceases to operate as it was originally designed – and an improperly functioning body is vulnerable to a variety of issues.
The immune system is what keeps us healthy inside; it is the body’s way of fighting off that which contaminates or pollutes the system. When the immune system becomes compromised, the body is more susceptible to illness and break down. It’s a fact, people who have higher stress get sick more often, and that can be directly attributed to the health of the immune system.
So how exactly does therapeutic massage aid in maintaining a robust and healthy immune system? Numerous studies have shown that massage administered regularly not only increases the serotonin levels in the brains of those who received therapeutic massage, but also strengthened the immune systems of those in the trial studies. How do they know? The massage group got sick less frequently than the control study group, and they felt better – complaining of fewer aches and pains from day to day!
Therapeutic Massage = Healing Relief for the Whole Body! Keep the immune system in peak performance with the addition of a healthy ‘Hands On’ policy.
Pain ManagementMost of us have suffered from a sore back (or other sore muscles) at one point or another in our lives – in fact, studies have shown that over 80% of people will suffer from some form of back or muscular pain at some point in their lifetime. Whether it is chronic or sporadic, there is nothing worse than trying to function while you’re in pain. As a dedicated Health and Wellness Center, LaVida Massage is acutely aware of the need for effective, and natural pain management techniques.
Growing amounts of clinical research shows that massage therapy is effective in the reduction, alleviation, or management of chronic or sporadic pain. Because of this supporting data, medical professionals and patients now recognize the importance of integrating therapeutic massage into mainstream pain management programs.
These studies indicate therapeutic massage not only alleviates pain in hospitalized cancer patients (as one example), but also alleviates muscle spasms and may reduce the need for prescription pain medication. In fact, 95% of a patient study group felt that massage therapy was a ‘crucial part’ of their hospital experience, and as a result, the need for medication decreased on the days they received therapeutic massage. Now that’s proof positive, ‘Hands On’ relief!
Improves Concentration
Feeling like your energy level is low, combined with now sleeping as well as you should, can attribute to difficulty concentrating. At a glance, you can see how therapeutic massage is filled with positive side effects, including more focus, improved concentration, a better night’s sleep, and renewed levels of energy.
Feel better. Look better. Think better! In addition, it feels great to get a therapeutic massage.
It’s not an indulgence to implement a proven wellness technique into your healthy lifestyle! What’s not to love about a therapeutic massage?
More Energy
Having more energy is a reward in and of itself! Therapeutic massage and the numerous benefits associated with it not only give you more quality time for yourself, it helps to improve your energy levels. This means more meaningful time with family and friends, as well as getting more enjoyment out of that time because you aren’t exhausted.
Reduces Heart RateWhile most people now understand the dangers associated with high blood pressure, most people don’t understand exactly why it is a health problem. High blood pressure has very few symptoms – you often learn about having it too late. Contrary to popular belief, it affects men and women alike and anyone of any age can have high blood pressure. That’s why everyone should get their blood pressure evaluated when they visit the doctor, and why it is referred to as the ‘silent killer’.
Therapeutic massage administered by a trained, professional Massage Therapist is one of many proven methods to combat heart disease by lowering the heart rate. Therapeutic massage can decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure (the numbers you hear at the doctor when they check your blood pressure) as well as reducing the hormones in the body that can cause stress. Heart health is a serious matter and mitigating the risk of serious heart-related issues, including heart attack, stroke, and even kidney failure, may just be the most important thing you ever do to support your healthy body.
Make sure your schedule includes a regular therapeutic massage from a LaVida Massage Wellness Center, as part of your well-rounded heart health routine.
Reduces StressStress is more than skin deep, and the side effects of stress can rear their ugly heads in unexpected ways. A person’s daily routine takes its toll on the body, and stress and anxiety are often the top offenders. The worst part about stress is that persistent feelings of tension or anxiety compound the physical symptoms associated with the problem itself! Simply put, stress contributes to the buildup of unwanted acids in the muscles, and throughout the entire body. Releasing those acids that build up naturally, but are compounded by stress, in a timely manner keep the body in good working order. Therapeutic massage assists with the essential function of breaking down and expelling those unnecessary and damaging acids.
Therapeutic massage is one important step toward the elimination of those potentially harmful acids in the body – as well as the alleviation of symptoms associated with acid buildup. Therapeutic massage helps to dissolve the toxins where they reside through the act of physical stimulation of the muscle and tissue at the source of the problem, thus releasing and filtering off the unwanted acids. The toxins are released and sloughed off into the bloodstream where they can be safely transported out of the body to be eliminated. Massage delivers positive and tangible benefits physically, psychologically, emotionally, and even chemically – down to the cellular level.
Relieves Migraines & HeadachesThe human brain is a complex, large, complex, and ceaselessly hardworking muscle – second only to the human heart. We all understand the importance of regular exercise. It is good for the body and keeps the muscles strong and the joints limber. The brain requires the same care and attention as the heart. The external forces acting on the body day in and day such as the effects of stress, anxiety, lack of sleep and even a poor diet can present itself in the form of headaches. The Statistically, over 60% of Americans suffer from headaches and they are no laughing matter for those afflicted with chronic or even sporadic pain.
Headache relief is often requested when people enter a LaVida Massage Wellness Center. At LaVida Massage, we are committed to the relief and management of pain.
A therapeutic massage that is administered to alleviate headaches focuses on relieving tension in a specific set of problem areas; the head, neck, and shoulders specifically. The result of such isolated massage therapies has proven positive results with pain relief as well as an improved night’s sleep. Serotonin levels tend to increase in the brain, helping to boost your mood as well as regulate appetite and help to suppress the instances of stress-induced headaches.
How can Massage reduce Stress?
April is National Stress Awareness month and with the public issue of both mental and physical health, this is a great time to make sure both your mind and body are in the right place. LaVida Massage is the perfect place to help you alleviate any stress that is clouding up your mind and creating tension and havoc on your body. I know before I worked at LaVida, I didn’t really know what I could do or what benefits I would gain through regular stress management. But, LaVida offers both therapeutic services and products to help you manage the hustle and bustle of the world around you.
Creating time for a massage from one of our Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT), once a month, will help alleviate stress-induced knots or tightness in your body. One of the benefits of going in for a routine massage is that the LMT will ask you which areas you would like to focus on each time. Personally, I like to communicate with the LMT when they find the tense muscles, to focus on those specific areas. Receiving a monthly massage has helped me, not only with physical stress, but with mental stress also. Knowing that I have that monthly massage coming up gives me something to look forward to and I can plan my more physically strenuous activities around the time of my massage. If you are unsure about what type of massage is right for you be sure to communicate with your therapist during the massage to ensure you are receiving the appropriate amount of pressure.
For stress relief in between your monthly massage try one of our 100% Pure Essential Oils or essential oil blends to help eliminate stress on a daily basis. You can use these essential oils in a variety of ways. My favorite essential oil is pure Lemon Oil. It reminds me of a freshly cleaned room or a crisp, early summer day. Use them as a replacement to candles in an essential oil diffuser or add a couple drops to a spray bottle with water and use them as a natural air freshener. A subtle and direct approach, my personal go-to at work, dab a little oil onto a microfiber towel and hold up to your nose to inhale. It allows me to take a step back from work, clear my mind, and not disturb anyone around me.
The Benefits of a Couples MassageWith Valentine’s Day around the corner, one of the best ways to strengthen your relationship with a loved one is with a Couples’ Massage from LaVida Massage. By now, most people understand the mental and physical benefits of a massage. But, what are the positive effects it can have on a relationship?
Stretching to Stay Healthy
Anyone who has played sports or taken a gym class in high school remembers stretching to warm up for an activity. As we have grown older, many of us have stopped stretching for a variety of reasons. While we may not be playing softball or kickball on a daily basis, stretching is still very important. Stretching promotes a wide variety of benefits that can increase your range of motion and promote healing. Whether you work out regularly or live a more sedentary lifestyle, stretching is something that should be done routinely.
There are two main types of stretching, Static and Dynamic. There is no wrong choice in what type of stretching you choose. Picking Static or Dynamic Stretching based on your lifestyle can bring additional benefits. When deciding what type of stretching is best for you, think of the outcome you are trying to achieve. If one particular area seems tight, Static Stretching is the best way to stretch individual muscles. Static Stretching is the most common type of stretching. It is when you stretch and hold for 30 seconds while standing or sitting in one position. If you are looking for a stretch that targets a variety of different muscle groups, Dynamic Stretching is the best way to do so. Dynamic Stretching is when you stretch while moving, i.e. running, high knees, or lunges.
One of the benefits of stretching is that it can reverse the signs of aging. It is no secret that as we get older we get a little stiffer. By regularly stretching you can increase flexibility and range of motion. Stretching regularly may also help alleviate back pain. Back pain can be caused by tight muscles or poor posture. By regularly keeping those muscles loose, back pain will not only go away, but it can also be prevented from coming back.
While stretching can help physical pain, it is also mentally therapeutic. Muscles can become tense as a response to increased stress. The bodies reaction to stress can cause pain and even headaches. Stretching alleviates the stress that can become built up in your muscles. When you stretch, focus on yourself and ignore outside distractions. While it isn’t a 60-minute massage, stretching promotes a calm mind and can be done in your home.

- Something you both can enjoy: Every person is different, that is no secret. Sometimes it is hard to find something to do that you both will enjoy doing together. Look no further, friend. A massage is something that can be done together but is customized to each guest specific needs, both of you are sure to enjoy!
- Think outside of the box: Tired of the going to the same three places on date night? Mix it up with a couples’ massage! Not only will you get to experience something new, but it will potentially jump-start a whole new area of relaxation for you and your partner to explore.
- Quality time together: With today’s demanding work and home schedules, it can be tough to find a way to reconnect with each other. A couples’ massage is a great way to set aside, at least, 60-Minutes of time to spend together with each other.
- Increases feelings of affection: Massages have been known to increase oxytocin, more commonly known as the “cuddle” chemical. Not only will you leave the massage feeling relaxed and stress-free, you will also feel closer to the one you love!
